Why This Role Matters  Core is the foundation the rest of Expeditors builds on: the servers, networks, databases, cloud landing zones, collaboration platforms, messaging systems, endpoints, and delivery pipelines that every other technology team and employee depends on. The governing principle is not negotiable: protect the enterprise and accelerate value delivery.  As Director, Core, you will lead a global organization through its transition from administration to engineering, from centralized decisions to distributed ownership, and from technology-shaped estates to products with named customers and measurable outcomes. Success is measured not only by keeping the lights on, but by how far you advance that transformation while maintaining operational excellence.  Team and Technology  You will lead approximately 140 people across Corporate Headquarters, Spokane, and the Global Capability Center in Chennai through Senior Managers, Technical Product Managers, and Architects. The organization spans Private and Public Cloud Infrastructure, Developer Experience, User and Endpoint Systems, and data center facilities.  Core delivers hybrid multi-cloud management, developer experience, core back-office enablement, and workplace and endpoint experience products. You will partner closely with Cybersecurity, Geographic Global Technology, Site Reliability Engineering, Technical Product Management, Architects, procurement, vendor management, and Legal while overseeing infrastructure, cloud, licensing, and technology provider relationships.  What Success Looks Like  Every capability can name its customers, expected outcomes, and meaningful measures.  The domain is presented through data-driven roadmaps, commitments, and operational health.  Infrastructure as Code adoption expands while manual production work is materially reduced.  Reliability practices and Cybersecurity controls are delivered through shared metrics and engineering practices.  Leadership bench strength, technical leadership, and strategic partnerships continue to deepen globally.  Key Areas of Impact  Coaching for Growth   Coach against the career grid, run skip-level feedback, and calibrate expectations with peer Directors so that standards are consistently applied across locations.  Develop managers, architects, and engineers while building succession plans and leadership growth across the global organization.  Delivering on Commitments  Own organizational commitments, lead capacity planning, manage departmental budgets across capital and operating expenditure, and ensure investments deliver measurable value.  Prioritize freight-impacting work, manage operational and delivery risk, and maintain accountability for roadmap execution, operational health, and sustainable delivery.  Hiring and Retaining Excellence   Fill critical leadership positions, strengthen product management and engineering capability, and hire leaders who combine domain expertise with software development experience.  Build a culture grounded in respect, trust, support, succession planning, and long-term organizational capability.  Technical Depth and Delivery   Lead the transition toward Infrastructure as Code, automation, and pipeline-based delivery while establishing standards for reproducible environments and operational excellence.  Be accountable for technical decisions across the organization and champion AI-assisted engineering tooling, automation, testing, reliability, and security practices.  Architectural Scale  Participate in design decisions involving virtualization strategy, database modernization, hybrid reference architecture, observability, and on-premises AI.  Govern through paved roads, architecture decision records, inner-source contribution, and enterprise-wide architectural ownership and standards.  Team Collaboration Scale   Reduce coordination overhead, strengthen cross-location partnerships, and sustain the trust-based operating model that enables autonomous teams and shared ownership.  Partner with Cybersecurity, Site Reliability Engineering, Geographic Global Technology, and regional teams to deliver outcomes across organizational boundaries.  Influence and Advocacy   Represent the domain through roadmap, capacity, commitment, and operational-health data while making Core’s work visible across the organization.  Model the co-founder mindset, advocate for customer-focused outcomes, and influence technology strategy across stakeholders and leadership forums.  Scope of Vision   Carry a one-to-three-year vision across cloud and modernization, legacy retirement, capability ownership transitions, and long-term technology investments.  Maintain alignment from provider technology through product and program roadmaps while translating strategic direction into executable plans.  Scale of Business Understanding and Impact  Define customers, expected outcomes, and success measures for every capability while improving the experience of employees, technical staff, customers, and governance functions.  Establish the strategic posture for critical infrastructure providers, manage multiple cost centers, and steward cloud commitments, platform investments, and third-party risk.  Set the strategic posture for the providers behind critical infrastructure, working with procurement, vendor management, Cybersecurity and Legal so that renewal terms, exit options and third-party risk are settled ahead of the compelling event rather than during it.  This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA. area at one of the following locations depending on availability.
