Why This Role Matters  The UX Designer III leads the design of complex workflows, features, and user experiences across digital products, platforms, and services. This role owns design efforts from discovery through delivery, balancing user needs, business objectives, accessibility requirements, and technical constraints to create intuitive, scalable, and accessible experiences.  Working with a high degree of independence, this role solves complex design challenges, drives product outcomes, and helps elevate team capabilities through feedback, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.  Team and Technology  This role serves on the central UX team and partners with one or more product teams based on current organizational needs. You will design across the product spectrum at Expeditors, from customer-facing products to applications used by thousands of employees across the global network. You will partner closely with Technical Product Management and Engineering, using workshops, user research, and Product Requirement Documents (PRDs) to design user workflows and experiences. You will use modern design tools, including Figma and approved AI-enabled tools, and contribute reusable, scalable components to the design system.  What Success Looks Like  Become a trusted partner to Technical Product Management and Engineering.  Deliver intuitive, scalable, and accessible experiences from discovery through implementation.  Improve efficiency, usability, accuracy, and error reduction through design.  Contribute reusable, scalable components to the design system.  Elevate team quality through design reviews, feedback, mentorship, and knowledge sharing.  Key Areas of Impact  User Research and Insights  Plan and execute appropriately scoped user research, synthesizing qualitative and quantitative inputs into actionable insights and design direction.  Identify critical learning objectives, validate assumptions, and translate research findings into recommendations that improve user experience and business outcomes.  Interaction Design and Information Architecture  Own complex workflows and multi-step experiences spanning related features, including permissions, exceptions, validation, recovery scenarios, and other real-world cases.  Create workflows, prototypes, and interaction specifications that minimize implementation ambiguity and reduce cognitive load through effective information architecture and workflow simplification.  Visual Design, UI Design, and Accessibility  Design and deliver high-quality user experiences for complex enterprise workflows while maintaining visual consistency, usability, and accessibility within supported product areas.  Integrate accessibility throughout the design process and partner with engineering teams to validate accessibility and design quality during implementation.  Product Thinking and Strategy   Clarify ambiguous requirements and define design approaches that balance user needs, technical constraints, accessibility requirements, and business priorities.  Connect design recommendations to measurable outcomes, including efficiency, usability, and error reduction, while identifying risks and improvement opportunities early.  Collaboration and Communication  Collaborate with Technical Product Managers, engineers, stakeholders, and designers, facilitating workshops and design discussions that resolve ambiguity and support decision-making.  Partner with the UX design team to set standards and raise the bar of the UX craft across the organization. Provide timely and actionable feedback while communicating design rationale, tradeoffs, and recommendations clearly.  Systems Thinking and Design Architecture  Contribute reusable, scalable patterns and components to the design system when product requirements are not supported by existing components.  Partner with design system owners and engineering teams to reduce one-off solutions and promote consistent experiences across related products, features, and workflows.  Tooling and Technical Fluency  Use modern design tools to model complex interactions, workflows, and user behaviors and produce implementation-ready artifacts that improve design-to-development collaboration.  Apply an understanding of front-end architecture and leverage approved AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, quality, and design workflow effectiveness.  Leadership and Influence  Proactively contribute to design reviews, provide timely and actionable feedback, and mentor less experienced designers through coaching and knowledge sharing.  Lead small initiatives, workstreams, or design efforts with limited oversight while improving design practices, standards, documentation, and team processes.  Logistics Domain Knowledge and Data Literacy   Develop expertise in logistics workflows, operational processes, and user roles to identify workflow inefficiencies and improve operational outcomes and user productivity.  Use business context and available data to prioritize improvements and explain how design decisions support efficiency, accuracy, risk reduction, and business objectives.  UI Writing and Content Design  Create scalable, user-centered interface content while maintaining terminology consistency across features, workflows, and product experiences.  Design recovery messaging, guidance, and system feedback that support self-service while accounting for localization, readability, and complex workflow requirements.  This position is on-site and will reside in the greater Seattle, WA. area at one of the following locations depending on availability.
