THE OPPORTUNITY 📈 Honeydew's accounting runs on outsourced support today, and our close lands on business day 15 - by the time leadership sees the numbers, the decisions have already been made. As our first in-house Senior Accountant, you are the engine that changes that. You'll bring accounting in-house, make the books something we can trust, and get leadership current numbers while they can still act on them. WHAT YOU'LL BUILD (YOUR FIRST 6 MONTHS) 🛠- Accounting fully in-house: day-to-day ownership of the GL, AP/AR, reconciliations, and close transitioned from our outsourced provider, with the relationship wound down by day 120 - Books we can trust: every key balance sheet account (cash, AP, AR, revenue) reconciled and documented, with no unresolved reconciling item older than 30 days by day 90, and kept that way through day 180 - Processes that outlast you: SOPs published for the 3–5 highest-priority accounting processes you own, including the close checklist, reconciliations, and revenue recognition, by day 150 HOW YOU'LL MAKE AN IMPACT Own the close. You'll record and review journal entries, accruals, and account reconciliations, including payroll and revenue, working toward closing the books by day 5 each month and escalating blockers early. Keep the books clean. You'll maintain the general ledger and AP, manage Brex, investigate discrepancies as they surface, and keep the supporting documentation and internal controls that make the numbers defensible. Put AI to work, with a human check. You'll direct how AI and automation get used in accounting, reviewing reconciliations, reports, and other templates for accuracy before anyone relies on them. Build the function. You'll write and maintain the SOPs and policies for the areas you own, building the processes and controls the finance function needs to scale as Honeydew grows. WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR The Non-Negotiables: - Hands-on ownership of the full close cycle, you've personally run month-end/year-end close (journal entries, accruals, reconciliations) end-to-end, not just supported it, and can walk us through a specific close, the reconciliation issues you caught, and the timelines you hit - GAAP revenue recognition experience, including recurring/subscription revenue — you've applied the rules in practice and can describe a judgment call you made - Experience integrating AI/automation tools into accounting workflows — you can name a tool you set up, what it changed, and an error you caught in its output - Advanced Excel experience The Nice-to-Haves: - Experience with systems automations - Quickbooks or similar - Data Modeling, SQL, Databricks, or similar YOU'LL THRIVE HERE IF… - You care about speed and accuracy equally, and don't treat a faster close as a license to cut corners - You are someone excited by the AI driven changes in accounting, but you have the knowledge and ability to verify and fact check - You flag a blocker early and show up with a proposed fix - You leave books and processes cleaner than you found them - You write things down so the next person can run them - You're energized by owning a function and building it, not just running an existing one WHY HONEYDEW?
