As a Research Intern , you’ll explore how AI can transform the daily work of mechanical engineers. Your goal is to identify practical opportunities where AI tools can automate, accelerate, or improve engineering tasks and develop concepts that demonstrate their potential in a real-world engineering environment. Map the engineering workflow – Analyze common mechanical engineering tasks such as 3D modelling, technical drawing creation, BOM generation, cost-price calculations, requirements specification, testing, validation, and simulations Identify AI opportunities – Investigate which mechanical engineering activities could be automated or enhanced using AI and assess their potential impact Research AI solutions – Explore existing AI tools, technologies, and approaches relevant to mechanical engineering and evaluate their capabilities and limitations Define use cases – Select promising applications and translate them into clear, practical use cases based on business and engineering requirements Develop Proofs of Concept – Prototype selected AI applications to demonstrate how they could support or automate engineering tasks Evaluate feasibility – Assess the accuracy, reliability, efficiency, and practical applicability of AI solutions in a professional engineering environment Recommend next steps – Translate your findings into concrete recommendations for how AI could be integrated into the mechanical engineering workflow
